Solid Oak Hardwood Furniture

Viewed as a British Hardwood, and whilst our genuine Oak is rather special its current replacement European Oak does not carry the magical traits English Oak does, Solid Oak Hardwood Furniture when created using our native oak is very durable and hardwearing.

You only have to look at the Templar Barns near Stanstead Airport built around the 13th Century and obviously others to appreciate the durability of our native oak. Shakespeare’s Stratford upon Avon has wonderful buildings and yes all have the characteristics and shapes our oak creates as it ages. Getting almost as hard as Bell Metal but it retains the inherent strength and this is why so many of our customers specify Solid Oak Hardwood Furniture.

In your garden Oak will sometimes warp and move often small cracks appear, these in no way comprise the furniture’s strength or life. We strive to obtain genuine English oak but it is becoming a rare and expensive timber. But never be afraid to ask for it.

Oak like all hardwoods will as it ages turn into that lovely silvery grey colour beloved by so many - once this happens it remains this colour for life. Because of the tannins found in oak care must be taken with screws etc and Stainless Steel fixings must be used.
